Compassion, Creativity & Connection

Merryn’s journey is one of resilience, creativity, and a genuine passion for helping others. Growing up in the country, she experienced a challenging and traumatic childhood, but also discovered a deep love for the arts during her school years. Theatre, drawing, and writing became powerful outlets for self-expression—something that continues to shape who she is today. As an adult, Merryn developed a strong desire to support others, inspired by her own life experiences and past relationships. She has a natural ability to read people and connect on a deeper level, allowing her to create safe, understanding, and supportive spaces for those she works with.

FND Education & Tips

Following her passion, Merryn pursued her dream of becoming a teacher and has since built a meaningful career supporting children, families, and individuals. Around seven years ago, she was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), which further strengthened her empathy and insight into the complexities of wellbeing. She now uses creativity not only as a personal coping tool but also as a therapeutic approach to support others. Merryn holds a Diploma in Children’s Services, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, and a Certificate III in Disability Support, and is currently continuing her studies with a Diploma of Counselling. Her approach is warm, person-centred, and grounded in both lived experience and professional knowledge.

What is FND?

FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) is a condition where the brain and body struggle to communicate effectively, even though scans often appear normal. It affects how signals are sent and received, particularly around movement, sensation, and awareness.

Common Symptoms

FND can present in many ways, including weakness, tremors, difficulty walking, seizure-like episodes, speech challenges, and sensory changes. Symptoms can vary from person to person and may come and go or change over time.

Diagnosis & Important Facts

FND is a real and recognised condition that is not imagined or “all in the head,” and it is not caused by structural damage to the brain. It is diagnosed by trained professionals based on specific clinical signs, often involving neurologists and sometimes psychologists.

Treatment & Recovery

With the right support, many people see improvement through approaches like physiotherapy, psychological therapy, and education about the condition. Recovery looks different for everyone, but early understanding and support can make a meaningful difference.
